Many sinks designs, most notably sit on and apron fronted sinks, can be fitted as a surface mounted or free-standing sink provided that the seen edges of the sink have been finished. Many Belfast sinks for example only have the enamel on portions of the sink which are expected to be exposed after a normal fitting. A detail well worth checking before you purchase. .
